SCHOOL BASED MENTAL HEALTH
Consist of various training designed to promote healthy social, emotional, and behavioral development of students in primary, secondary and higher institutions. Students come from all walks of life hence creating a breeding ground for different social issues on campus. Drugs and alcohol abuse is an ever-present problem and catalyst to violence, sexual harassment and bullying. All of these issues require awareness and sensitivity. The following are the courses available:
1. Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Training: Alcohol and drug abuse is a serious concern on campuses because it impacts their health, their academics, and their safety. This course will address the following: Myths & facts, Progression of dependency, Addiction as a disease, Medical consequences of substance and Stress & coping.
2. Sexual Harassment Prevention Training: To help prevent sexual violence, students, staff, faculty and other academic appointees should be required to receive sexual harassment prevention and intervention training and education regularly. This course will address the following: Definitions of different forms of sexual violence, Social norms, Bystander intervention, impact of violence and trauma on survivors’ lives and Rights and options about reporting sexual violence
3. Harassment, Bullying and Cyberbullying Prevention Training: Every students has a right to physical and emotional safety. Schools have a role to play in preventing harassment and bullying in their facility. This course will address the following: Bullying defined, Forms of bullying, Ten key findings about bullying and Best practices in bullying prevention and responses.
4. Violence Prevention Training: Murder, robbery, rape, riot, cultism are some of the violence that plague campuses across the country. This course will address the following: Define Violence, impact of violence on education, Risk factors and stressors for violence, signs of emotional crisis and behavioral emergencies and violence prevention strategies.
5. Low Self Esteem Prevention Training: “self, esteem,” “self-image,” “self-perception,” and “self-concept” is something that everyone, at some point or another struggles with but a consistent low self-esteem sometimes develops during puberty. This course will address the following: Definition of low self-esteem, how low self-esteem develops, biased expectations, Negative self-evaluations, Accepting yourself, and Healthy self-esteem.
6. Sex Education: “Sex Talk” is often uncomfortable especially when it involves minors. Talking to minors about sex has to be age appropriate. This course will teach educators and parents how to talk to kids about sex in age appropriate content using different skills and resources.
7. Child Abuse Prevention: Unfortunately children are prone to being abused due to their vulnerability and they are 10 times more likely to be abused by adults (Dad, Mom, Aunty, Uncle, Neighbor, Teacher, etc.) that are close to them. Protecting children is the role and responsibility of every adult. Since children spend over 8 hours in school educators need to be aware of all red flags indicating a child is being abused. This course will highlight characteristics of abuse, understand 4 types of abuse, recognize how abuse can be prevented, understand the process and importance of reporting abuse, identify potential abusers and create a safe learning environment.
8. Stress Management and Mindfulness: Teaching is among the “top five most stressful occupation.’ This session is designed to teach employees how to renegotiate their relationship with tension through cognitive and physical relaxation technique. Stress can be caused by a variety of factors - which may include work-related factors or personal issues outside the workplace, singly or in combination. Various relaxation methods and coping skills used to prevent and manage stress will be emphasized.
