INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH
People who have been internally displaced as a result of violence have one of the highest risk for mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depersonalization, derealization etc. Stabilization should not only focus on building “bricks and mortars” but also focus on mending the “hearts and minds” of these individuals.

- Diagnose & Treat Mental Illness

- Training Staff that have Contact with IDPs:
- Mental Health First Aid: is designed to teach staff how to identify, understand, and help a person who may be developing or experiencing a mental health problem. Everyone in direct contact with internally displaced persons should be a certified mental health counselor.
- Conversation with Vulnerable People: A person’s emotional state can affect their reaction. Active listening techniques can help alleviate distress and de-escalate aggression.
- Sexual Violence Prevention: Sexual violence refers to sexual, assault, rape, and sexual abuse. Prevention is the best tool to eliminate sexual violence in IDP camps.
- Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention: All IDP camps should be a drug free zone to ensure safety. The effects of Alcohol and Drugs on physical health, work, personal relationships, and risk to one self and others will be emphasized.
- Stress Management: This session is designed to teach employees how to renegotiate their relationship with tension through cognitive and physical relaxation technique.
